28th Ayrshire (Troon) Scouts - Camp Kit Enhancement Initiative

2025-06-05  •  1 comment  •  28thScouts  •  Prestwick, Troon & Villages

Through this project, we aim to enrich the lives of young people by providing access to exciting outdoor adventures and meaningful experiences they might not otherwise have. From single overnight stays to archery, abseiling, hill walking, paddleboarding, and orienteering, these activities nurture vital life skills—teamwork, leadership, resilience, and confidence—that will serve them well into adulthood.

Crucially, spending time outdoors and away from screens plays a powerful role in supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Our activities offer a much-needed break from the pressures of school, social media, and daily life, creating a safe, positive space where they can grow, connect, and recharge emotionally.

With over 200 young people in our group, the addition of new leader tents will enable us to expand camps and overnight experiences year-round. This will allow more young people to benefit from regular time in nature, all within safe and well-supported environments.

Our adult leaders also gain, building their confidence and skills as they share knowledge and experience. Everyone involved benefits from the outdoors, strengthening mental wellbeing and community connection.

Thanks to our strengthened team, we’re now able to offer more overnight camping experiences—vital opportunities for young people to develop essential Skills for Life such as resilience, teamwork, and independence.

To make these nights away possible, we urgently need four new leader tents. Each tent will accommodate up to 12 adults on monthly trips, enabling at least 144 adult nights away per year. More importantly, this improved infrastructure will allow us to double the number of young people we can safely support on each camp—adding 240 youth nights away annually.  Without these new tents, our capacity will be restricted, limiting the number of young people who can benefit from these valuable nights' away experiences.

Funding will go directly towards purchasing these leader tents, enabling more young people to enjoy meaningful outdoor adventures. Your support will help us deliver transformative experiences in nature, inspire future leaders, and build a stronger, more confident generation.

Coylton Family Fun Day

2025-06-10  •  No comments  •  Deborah Thomson  •  Ayr South & Villages

Last Coylton Fun Day was held 8yrs ago, villagers are extremely keen after local discussion and feedback from local groups for it to be reinstated for their Community. The volunteer led event would enhance engagement, reduce isolation and increase cohesion. Coylton has a number of vibrant 3rd sector organisations all willing to work together to benefit their residents. With current cost of living situation reinstating the annual fun day would enable those who can’t afford to travel further afield to enjoy a family day out. Funding purchases can be continually used on future events and will be readily available for local groups.

With current reduction in local funding, positive partnership working is so important and local groups coming together to work together is essential. This year we rebuilt the Santa Sleigh and took it round all the streets in village along with Santa and Mrs Claus and many elves handing out sweets and interacting with all the kids , we had Breakfast with Santa handing out gifts in the local Cafe ,( Me's ) this year we hope to expand to Hot Chocolate after parade in our Marquee , we can also support our Community Football team with events and sport activities for all the children we want to bring back the heart of the Community and lots of Fun things to engage the Families and local residents in. We would like to purchase as one of the equipment necessary for the project, ie: Generator , Marquee, PA system, Hot water Urns

Mossblown Matters - Wind and watertight protection before the winter

2025-06-04  •  No comments  •  Dianne Campbell  •  Ayr South & Villages

We have spent some time replacing the main windows in both halls with double glazing and we put new fire doors in.  We would like to double glaze the remaining windows in the toilets and back of the hall as they are starting to rot and not keeping the heat in.  The people using the community centre will benefit from this as the place will be warmer.

Community Rooms Refurb

2025-06-11  •  No comments  •  Norrie Smith  •  Prestwick, Troon & Villages

We plan to revitalise Prestwick Community Hall to create a more welcoming, accessible, and versatile space for local residents of all ages. The funding will be used to purchase essential decorating materials (such as matt and gloss paint, brushes, sealant, and fillers), timber for minor repairs, and laminate flooring to improve our upstairs meeting room.

A key part of the project is the installation of heavy, full-length blackout curtains around the main hall. These will dramatically improve the sound quality during live music events and performances by reducing echo and enhancing acoustics. The curtains will also enable us to host daytime shows, film screenings, and community events that require light control.

These upgrades will allow us to expand our programme of activities and attract a broader range of users — from Pensioners, youth groups and adult learners to music performers, social clubs, and family-friendly events. This funding will help us transform the hall into a vibrant, inclusive hub at the heart of Prestwick's community life.

Ayr Academy Parent Council Sensory Circuits

The sensory resources will be used to:

  • Create a safe space which pupils can access at break and lunch to regulate

  • Run a regular ‘Sensory Circuits’ group before and during the school day to help improve pupils’ mental health and wellbeing, and engage them in positive physical activity experiences.

At Ayr Academy we strive to support our young people and evidence has shown that the implementation of Sensory Circuits has a significant positive impact on learning and achievement.

Refurbished Bikes for New Riders

2025-06-04  •  No comments  •  Community Gift Exchange SCIO  •  Ayr North

£2000 will pay for 10 refurbished bikes, to be supplied by our CGX Cycle Works as capital assets costing £200 each to be donated free of charge to individuals.  CGX Cycle Works has recently completed two successive years producing 400 refurbished bikes to issue free of charge to young people across South Ayrshire.  The Cycling Scotland recognised cost of a refurbished bike exceeds £250, with the additional costs of storing and distributing them to recipients further exceeding that, all being regarded as elements of the total capital cost to achieve the transfer of ownership of the capital asset.  During distribution of the bikes to children, many of the parents asked about the availability of free bikes so they could go on rides with their children.  We hope to meet this identified need.
